Travel Information

Visa Requirements

Attendees from most countries will require a visa to enter Laos. Please check the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Laos or your nearest Lao Embassy/Consulate for the most up-to-date visa regulations.

If you require an invitation letter for your visa application, please email registration@icsd2025.org with your full name, passport number, affiliation, and presentation title (if applicable). Invitation letters will be issued only after successful registration and payment.

Airport Transfer

Wattay International Airport (VTE) is the main international airport serving Vientiane.

  • Taxi: Readily available outside the arrival hall. Approx. 100,000-150,000 LAK (5-8 USD).
  • Ride-Hailing Apps: Loca and Grab are popular options.
  • Pre-arranged Transfers: Some hotels offer airport transfer services.

Accommodation Options

While the conference is at Dongdok Campus, most attendees prefer to stay in central Vientiane for easier access to dining and attractions. We recommend the following hotels, which offer a range of prices and amenities:

Mid-Range Options:
  • Lao Plaza Hotel: Approx. 5-7 km from campus, provides shuttle service.
  • Settha Palace Hotel: Historic charm, closer to city center.
Budget-Friendly Options:
  • Vientiane Garden Boutique Hotel: Comfortable and well-located.
  • Dream Home Hostel: Ideal for students, closer to campus.

Local Customs & Etiquette

  • Currency: Lao Kip (LAK). USD and Thai Baht are widely accepted in tourist areas.
  • Dress Code: Dress modestly, especially when visiting temples. Smart casual or business attire for the conference.
  • Greetings: A traditional "Nop" (prayer-like gesture) or "Sabaidee" (hello).
  • Tipping: Not customary but appreciated for good service.
  • Safety: Vientiane is generally safe, but be aware of your surroundings.
  • Weather: November is pleasant (20-30°C/68-86°F), end of rainy season, lower humidity.

Proceedings & Publications

All accepted and presented papers at ICSD 2025 will be published in the official conference proceedings, with an ISBN. The proceedings will be made available online after the conference.
